Bunker Renovation 2023–2029
BioArt Village is the current name of the former German officers’ mess from the Second World War, consisting of five bunkers camouflaged as traditional farmhouses. In the Eindhoven region, the bunkers are better known as the “Duitse Woningen”, located opposite the Philips Fruit Garden. Since 2015, the site has been home to the activities of BioArt Laboratories, operating at the intersection of art and science. The foundation acquired the bunkers in 2022, and that same year the site was officially designated as a municipal heritage site.

To ensure that our activities can continue successfully in the future, the buildings require extensive renovation. The foundation is therefore very grateful for any support. In addition to involving young people who can temporarily stay at BioArt Village, we aim to engage interested retirees and other volunteers from Eindhoven and the surrounding area in the renovation. We are also looking for companies that share an affinity with the foundation and are willing to contribute materials and expertise, creating opportunities for collaboration. Every contribution and collaboration is highly valued, particularly because the foundation has limited resources.
Want to become a volunteer?
A wide range of tasks is available. There are five buildings, each in varying states of repair and maintenance. Activities may include partially replacing window frames and fittings (woodworking), sanding and painting, installing wiring, applying insulation materials and plastering. Garden maintenance is also an option.
The foundation is urgently looking for practical, hands-on volunteers who would enjoy contributing to the renovation of this beautiful location one day a week or once every two weeks, together with others. Volunteers will receive guidance on priorities, as well as support with the work and the use of materials.
A volunteer day starts at 10:00 with a joint briefing and generally runs until 16:30. There are two coffee/tea breaks throughout the day, as well as a shared lunch provided by the foundation, ensuring that everyone takes regular breaks. Volunteer groups are generally limited to four people per day. When signing up, volunteers can indicate their preferred days. Volunteers are also actively invited to attend all public activities organised by BioArt Laboratories.
