‘Velarium’ by Camille Gros and Léna Dwernicki, is a shelter in arid environments inspired by the thermoregulating properties of bat wings. A wing-like canopy provides shade, allowing light to enter while reducing heat, influenced by Moroccan architecture. Designed as a Low Tech structure, the wings open manually, using local, sustainable materials, and it rests on stilts to preserve the natural surroundings. Its a testament to nature’s engineering, showing how we can engage with the environment while addressing ecological challenges.
