Dora works with natural materials, combining embroidery, screen printing, and eco-printing to explore the deep connections between nature and culture. This fiber artwork is composed of handmade cattail paper interwoven with delicate silk threads. Its textured surface evokes the irregularity of the earth, while the silk embroidery traces patterns reminiscent of entangled root systems. Her work Underworld draws on the myth of Persephone, whose descent into darkness and return to light mirror the earth’s cycles of decay and renewal. Beneath the surface, roots, fungi, and microorganisms form hidden networks that sustain life above ground.
The work evokes a fragile balance: an underworld where decomposition becomes regeneration, mythology and ecology intertwine, and unseen forces sustain the continuity of living systems.
