Fibres of Silence
Country
Netherlands
With a passion for natural materials, craftsmanship and design, Merel explores the quiet beauty and fragility found in botanical forms. Fibres of Silence brings together delicate natural fibres and a dark, solid construction, creating a serene composition shaped by contrast. The work reflects on grief, farewell and the connection between people and nature. Through handmade natural fibres, Merel creates a quiet space for stillness, vulnerability and memory — exploring what remains when words fall short.
Part of Reclaimed Botanical Art: A language of the first generation botanical artists. A collective of 5 artists who are rediscovering botanical art. Traditionally rooted in the interplay between science and aesthetics, botanical art has long documented and celebrated plant life, In their research and design, they approach the plant as a source, teacher, and companion, responding to ecological, societal, and cultural circumstances.
