Rooted in the interplay between science and aesthetics, Erik’s practice looks at plants not simply as subjects to be depicted, but as sources, teachers and companions. His work explores how we can respond to the ecological, societal and cultural roles of the natural world. Take Shape explores the form-giving potential of the butterbur leaf (Petasites hybridus) — a common plant often overlooked for its ornamental qualities. Through experiments in preservation and form-making, the project transforms the leaf into new shapes, revealing unexpected possibilities within an everyday plant.

Part of Reclaimed Botanical Art: A language of the first generation botanical artists. A collective of 5 artists who are rediscovering botanical art. Traditionally rooted in the interplay between science and aesthetics, botanical art has long documented and celebrated plant life, In their research and design, they approach the plant as a source, teacher, and companion, responding to ecological, societal, and cultural circumstances.
