Multispecies Poles

The Multispecies Poles are modular ceramic structures that provide species-specific habitats for bats, insects, birds, plants, and other urban wildlife. Each pole can be adapted to local ecosystems, offering vertical environments, nesting opportunities, and nutritional resources for native species. Made from clay—a local, low-tech material inspired by indigenous building traditions—the poles provide thermal stability, acoustic insulation, and a range of microhabitats that support wildlife. The poles also invite public engagement by creating spaces where visitors can observe and experience interspecies relationships, fostering a greater awareness of the ecological communities that surround us. In this way, these vertical structures function not only as symbolic monuments but also as living systems that support biodiversity and encourage coexistence between humans and other species.
