Anthroponix
Test Kitchen

Every day we flush away 1.4 litres of our own urine with 33 litres of clean drinking water. We are using a lot of energy to throw away our bodily waste. But what if we could make this resource useful again?

Anthroponix is a transdisciplinary research and design collaboration to uncover the regenerative evolution of humans and the environment. The project suggests a new way to approach our bodily waste, which they presented during the Dutch Design Week expo of 2018 at BioArt Laboratories. As part of the project, 20 candidates participated in a citizens science study named ‘Anthroponix Test Kitchen’, where they can use a unique grow kit at home to ferment their own urine into a plant fertiliser. The Dutch Water Board (Waterschap de Dommel) engages in a research on the breakdown of drug residues during the fermentation process. The research is under the supervision of a team of environmental and social designers, who are interest in the social aspect of bringing man back in contact with nature. Anthroponix creates new life from what is generally seen as waste.
