Ariane Shirvani’s work ‘Yellow to Blue’ investigates two plant species, utilizing their natural pigments as sustainable alternatives in craft processes. The Indigofera tinctoria (Blue pigment) and Prangos ferulacea (Yellow) are ground covering legume that are rotated into fields to improve the soil, and this research-based work highlights the role of bio-materials in promoting both climate resilience and sustainability in design, after the plants served their purpose on the fields.
The green colours emerge from the combination of these pigments. The uneven colouration results in uniquely unpredictable patterns with random effects that will subtly evolve over time, and it provides an eco-friendly alternative to the synthetic colourants commonly used in the textile industry.
