To dream about the library of the future, that was the theme of Bibliotheekplaza 2022. Library colleagues from across the country joined this inspiring conference, where the aim of the day is to gain inspiration from outside the industry. This time, it was about exploring the limits of Virtual Reality within the context of libraries. How would this new development impact their current function in society, such as provide reliable information, promote reading and media skills and encourage personal development.
Some examples are shocking, such when technology expert Jarno Duursma showed through AI what kind of work and websites become obsolete. Then other examples are wonderful, such what BioArt Laboratories showed about its projects. Above all, all what these have in common is the drive from extraordinary people. They are a source of inspiration, of creativity and dreams where they make a place or put a thought out into the world, prompting further reflection and challenging us to look at things differently. And with that we look back at the library visitors: how can we contribute even more to more creativity, more wonder, more musing, more inspiration among the visitors? Whether with books or technology. Hasn’t that always been the role of the library? A place for truly everyone where dreams and truth can be sought?
