“How can community involvement in biotechnology using organic waste redefine sustainability?” Catinca Tilea’s ongoing project ‘H.O.W. To hope to be’ explores how household organic waste, as a substrate for mycelium, can create an open-source material for community use. The plan to build a waste-grown canopy in 2023 aims to study the impact of biotechnology in community settings, questioning the roles of the creator and benefactor, and how such practices can influence culture and pave the way for a sustainable future. Catinca Tilea focuses on keeping design relevant through diverse approaches, from product design to installations and research.
