Symbiotic Sessions is a series of interactive citizen science workshops that connect science, sustainability, creativity, and regenerative practices, making biotechnology and climate solutions tangible and accessible to everyday citizens. It is part of Citizen Science and Biotechnology for Sustainable Development: Trust, Innovation, and Action, an initiative within the European IANUS project. The sessions enable participants to become actively involved in scientific research, exploring topics such as the role of biotechnology in climate solutions, the balance between commercial and public research, and trust in innovation. The workshops were developed in collaboration with experts Ailén Gamberoni, Elise Meulenbroeks, Laurens Landeweerd, and Amalia Kallergi, and combine hands-on experiments with reflective discussions on sustainability and scientific ethics. Each workshop accommodated 15 participants and provided them with practical skills, scientific literacy, and experiential learning that could be applied at home, in schools, or within community initiatives.

In the workshop Fermentation, participants were introduced to kombucha: they learned how to brew it, experimented with flavors, and discussed the broader implications of biotechnology in everyday life. The principles of the Symbiocene — such as ecological interdependence and regenerative practices — served as a guiding framework throughout the session.
