It is time to get hands on in the laboratory! Students dived hands-on chemistry and materials science by experimenting with different amounts of glycerol added to potato-starch-based plastic. Cladded in lab coats, they shift different materials and  measurements to not only learn the steps of scientific experimentation, but also how to analyse their results and draw conclusions about the effects of additives on material properties and sustainability. By the end, they have learned how additives impact the strength of plastic and how these effects connect to sustainability and the concept of the Symbiocene. They’re inspired to continue exploring eco-friendly product design and stay aware of the ways they can contribute to a cleaner environment
