BioArt Laboratories presents: ‘The Symbiocene Forest’
Hidden in a green realm in Strijp lies BioArt Laboratories – a repurposed historical military complex in a dense forest, turned into a place of creativity and innovation. From Saturday 16th of October until Sunday 24th of October, BioArt Laboratories proudly presents ‘The Symbiocene Forest 2021.’
The exhibition displays several ongoing artistic research projects created by talented artists and designers who explore the Symbiocene era. Together we look for ways to accelerate the total assimilation of the anthropogenic effects, processes, objects, and materials by nature and incorporate the findings in our everyday lives. To question the fundamental ideas behind current societal systems and the dominating sustainable design practices:
– Does a material with only limited shelf life have value in design? Have a different look on sustainable design practices and rethink the value of materials!
– See the strength of design and art released on traditional craftsmanship to change the dynamic of existing symbiotic relationships with silk worms.
– How can Namibia’s invasive ‘devil tree’, which threatens the local biodiversity, transform from an unwanted element to a solution for the local populace?
– How can architectural design be used to stimulate innovate water solutions for a self-sustainable urban environment?
Together we delve into the creations of various talents whose works explore a world where human action, art, culture, and entrepreneurship are mutually dependent on- and benefit the health of all ecosystems.
The Symbiocene revolves around ecological and evolutionary thinking of the interconnectedness of life and all living things. It is a different approach to existing systems that are built from humanity’s desire to increase and influence on biophysical and evolutionary processes. The Symbiocene Forest 2021 exhibition questions these seemingly undisputed truths and systems of our current era. Come and take a look at artworks, objects and materials which will inspire you to think differently and beyond the current concept of sustainability. Artistic practices that advocate for less, all presented in a unique, rural setting at BioArt Laboratories. We invite you to take a step into a beautiful landscape and experience the Symbiocene together with our talented artists and designers.
