Eimear Kinsella

We use our tongues every day for voluntary and involuntary purposes. The shape, surface, and material makeup of the tongue is what allows it to be a muscle of diverse and multiple uses. The workings of the human tongue have always been of interest to artist Eimear Kinsella, particularly from a Textile Design background.

Her project Construct of Taste explores the functional construct through dissection, photography and remaking through textiles. An encyclopaedia investigates the many ways in which we use our tongues every day; from tasting, touching, phonetics and digestion to pulling faces and French kissing. The surface, movement and colour changes are reflected in the corresponding textiles, whilst the encyclopaedia allows you to get closer to the surface of your tongue than ever before.
