“Can we develop eco-friendly alternatives to traditional concrete using industrial waste?” Erco Lai’s project ‘Synthesizing Neostone’ addresses this critical environmental issue. He creates ‘Neostones’ using waste materials and explores geopolymerization, a process that utilizes ‘unwanted minerals’ to close material cycles within urban ecosystems. Lai, a biodesigner from Taiwan, not only imagines but actively experiments with sustainable manufacturing systems. His work aims to shift the manufacturing industry towards more sustainable practices, inspired by nature’s efficient processes.
