During the Spring of 2023, BioArt Laboratories offered different workshops that introduce young people to the wonderful world of life sciences, creativity and art.
As students work hands-on in the laboratory, they learn how to isolate DNA from bananas through common materials, or craft their own sculptures with a combination of besan flour and composite materials. In the workshop ‘Natural Dyes and Sustainable Fabrics’ they follow through the entire process of creating their own nature inspired fabric: from distilling and extracting their own dyes, to applying it on fabric spun from the wool of our Ouessant sheep. During the workshops, we show them how interconnected the world is with these industries, what impact they have on our environment, and what other alternatives there are.
