Oyster Matter
Country
Germany
In recent decades, industrial fishing of the European oyster (Ostrea edulis) has led to the almost complete extinction of this species and the loss of their reefs, which have until now played a major role in preserving biodiversity.
Oyster Matter addresses the decline of natural oyster reefs in the North Sea by transforming discarded oyster shells from restaurants into new habitat structures. This project brings together oyster farmers, designers, and the environment in a collaborative effort to support marine biodiversity and restoration.
