Stalagmites and crystals fascinate designer Isaac Monté. That’s why he started to experiment with methods of growing and using artificial crystals and to create different sizes and colors of crystals. “I have been researching a variety of dying techniques to change the color of the crystals.” Isaac has also created a technique that allows him to design objects solely out of crystals. “As a designer I can influence the shape and the size of the product during the formation of the crystal and the growth of the crystals. I want to show the fusion between technology and the beauty of nature,” Isaac says. Together with BioArt Laboratories Isaac researched the different color varieties by mixing different minerals. “ I want to explore in depth the possibility of changing the colors of the crystals to create marble-like effects and to define the pallet of shades. Besides this I want to research the limits of this material, especially when it comes to dimensions. How big can these objects become? As a designer I am curious to learn if these crystals can be integrated in interior design or even in architecture?”
