Every day, we plan for the future – future meetings, future holidays, and future innovations. Advancements in technology continue to be unhindered as the dreams of many are turned into reality. Many innovations have been of great benefit to society, improving transportation infrastructure, communications, and healthcare. Nonetheless, it is imperative that future innovations in these fields take into account the possible effects on the environment, society, and wellbeing. Are you ready to be responsible for the innovations in your future?
During the event Planning a Responsible Technological Future Barry Fitzgerald of BW Science, a TU Delft Research Scientist, kicked off with an introduction of his Secrets of Superhero Science: an ongoing exploration of the science and engineering behind the superpowers of some of your favourite superheroes. He convinced us how many superpowers seen in seemingly fictional movies can actually mean a lot in the context of responsible innovation.
Thereafter, Barry Fitzgerald introduced visitors to four young and inspiring speakers of the TU Eindhoven, who told everything about their work in responsible innovation and how their work could impact our future. Among the topics were the possibilities of intercontinental transatlantic biofuel flights, the future of CRISPR/Cas9, skin grafts made from spider silk, and drones being used in shopping malls to inspect structure safety and protect the general public.
