The calling for a healthier, honest and sustainable society leads to a growing interest in biotechnology, biological processes and materials. However, it is important that the drive behind development, experimental exploration and research in this sector are not purely economical. Critically reflecting upon the interconnectedness of the world and disciplines, approaching it with a flexible design thinking and bioethical considerations ,are equally important which can enrich the disciplinary knowledge itself.
During this two-hour masterclass, more than 300 students are introduced to various BioArt artworks and projects, showing them the wide scale impact their knowledge can bring to society from different interdisciplinary perspectives. Bio-ethics, laws, societal viewpoints and philosophy remain important pillars during the masterclass. With their newfound perspectives, the students are shown what the intersection of society and biology can bring for them in their own future careers.
