Water is a carrier of change. It contains mordants, tannins, metals, plant, pollutants and minerals, all of which can influence the chemical reactions involved in photographic and textile processes. However, as pressure on the planet’s water resources increases, Sam Bos and fellow artist Heiden Jansen reimagine how water sources can be shared and reused across two distinct disciplines.
In Liquid Archive, Sam Bos explores how water influences the development of images. From Emulsion lifts to experiments with plant-based photochemistry, the substances in water play an essential role in the chemical processes that shape the image.
The process is ever changing and fluid, each element reacting to the other, allowing to actively shape the resulting image. The work is meeting of canals flowing into a river, towards a shared horizon of care for the planet.
