This year talent Shaakira Jassat is joining us again. She is a graduate of the University of Pretoria (SA) as well as Design Academy Eindhoven (NL). She was born in South Africa and now lives in the Netherlands. Since the intensive drought in Cape Town between 2015 and 2018, Jassat has focused on water harvesting innovations for urban spaces. Her previous profession in the Interior Architecture field and growing up in a young democracy in South Africa all play a role in informing her work. Nature is one of her biggest inspirations and she is curious of how nature solves its own water management techniques. She loves to quietly observe by taking a deeper look at the secrets of how nature lives symbiotically with its surroundings. This methodology helps her in her quest to create restorative architectural and urban design techniques by experimenting on the peripheries of science and biology intertwined with craft, poetics and technology.
