Within Zorana – a living willow dome – people are invited to the ‘Willow Weaving’ workshop by Jasper Riehm, where they weave willow wreaths, bracelets and dream catchers – or anything that they envision. Surrounded by willow walls and natural tree stumps, participants learn how the willow material bends and flows, which techniques to use, and how they can put this knowledge into practice. The environment in which the workshops take place, inspired many as Zorana opens up a conversation about how we can do things differently, reminding us that the way we design and inhabit urban environments doesn’t have to be rigid or lifeless; it can be fluid, living, and part of a circular, regenerative system. That there is room to return to the spontaneous, playful exploration of natural spaces.
