Project
Soil in Waiting
Country
Netherlands
This project explores composting as an urban practice that reconnects people with the soil beneath the city, an ecosystem often paved over, managed, and treated as a resource to exploit. By diverting organic matter from the waste stream and returning it to the earth, the project challenges the extractive logic shaped by centuries of colonial and industrial practices. The resulting compost retains water, helping plants thrive with less irrigation. Composting becomes both a practical act of care and a form of resistance, restoring our relationship with the living world beneath our feet.
