Living Threads is a design research project that explores how living plant systems can participate in the repair of damaged textiles. Rather than using plants as a material, the project develops growing methods that respond to the needs and behaviors of different plant species, allowing roots and stems to shape the repair process. By growing plant structures directly into fabric, repair becomes a visible, living, and evolving act. The process embraces time, change, and uncertainty, challenging ideas of control and perfection in design.

The project results in garments and a reproducibility guide that demonstrate how care, ecological interdependence, and collaboration with vegetal life can inform a new material language. Rooted in the Symbiocene mindset, Living Threads moves beyond human-centered design by creating space for other life forms to actively shape the design process.
