Lost in Trans.
DDW 2017

In biology, metamorphosis is traditionally viewed as a significant stage in the life history of an organism: the change from one form to another – from the caterpillar to the butterfly. Yet, this biological principle also resonates within other disciplines. Folklore, literature and fine arts are filled with a wealth of examples about (physical) transformations. Art itself can even be seen as transformation in the way that it changes or reshapes materials into new ideas and visions.

For the Dutch Design Week of 2017, Bioart Laboratories set its sights on change and embraced the crossover between scientific and artistic research through the overall theme of Metamorphosis – the change from one form to another. Together with a selected group of young, talented artists and designers we presented the exhibition Lost In Transformation – Metamorphosis, a journey through the world of microorganisms and interactive networks, beyond the possible future of our humanity and to the countless possibilities of algae, some of which will literally take your breath away. Other than presenting all of our exciting projects and enjoyable collaborations of that year, this exhibition was also the first occasion where we gave our public insight into our future plans for the new Bioart Village.
